Why does my car feel unstable

But what kind of problem? And how do you go about fixing it? These 5 car problems are the most common reasons your vehicle may not drive smoothly. Tire pressure, uneven tire wear, and tires out of balance are all common culprits.

Increasing or decreasing tire pressure is usually a simple fix, but if too much time has passed, low air pressure can cause extra tire wear and too much air pressure can cause the tires to warp or wear more quickly. Is one side of the tire wearing more quickly? The incremental air resistance and the way the car amplifies each bump in the road when you get within 10 mph of the limiter makes the car almost impossible to handle.

That was my response to the OP. Sounds like you have the need to make your inch sound like a mile. No offense. Lieutenant General. I've hit several times and it's been solid as a rock.

It's the most stable car at triple digits I've ever owned. Check your alignment, and wheel balance at a reputable shop. Originally Posted by NewM3driver. Originally Posted by jmg. Agree with all that said car is solid as rock..

Second Lieutenant. My M3 with active suspension feels unstable above mph tested in Mexico. I am recently coming from an e92 i and that car felt very planted all the way to The sensation is almost like is a gust of wind were blowing the car from side to side.

I have tried all the different steering and suspension modes, but the second I go over mph the car starts to feel twitchy and not planted. The tires are filled to 33psi all around door insert recommended tire pressure which honestly seems low to me would think it should be around 38 front 40 rear.

I also thought it could be an alignment issue but the car tracks perfectly straight if I let go of the wheel. Any thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Re: weird problem My car's handling went all sloppy with them until I inflated them to their rated maximum pressure instead of the car's minimum. The tire shop may not have inflated them enough for your car, or if they truly are soft like my tires were then extra inflation will fix it.

If they're that soft then the extra inflation won't cause any center wear or any of the other fears associated with it, it'll just fix the underinflation that you're experiencing. Even if they're NOT, it will still be harmless with the exception of some possible center wear [which would also be harmless]. Any idea on the cause of the blowout? Also check the lug nuts. The tire shop may have failed to tighten them sufficiently or they may have loosened after a few miles.
