Maroubra where is
Maroubra Beach is surrounded by open space. Arthur Byrne Reserve and headland are to the south, and Broadarrow Reserve is to the west. Beyond these, the area is surrounded by the Maroubra Beach town centre and residential properties. The beach is popular with surfers given the regular good swell and wave conditions.
The beach can be very dangerous and swimmers are strongly advised to only swim between the flags, swim during patrol hours and to not swim alone. Weaker swimmers should consider visiting more sheltered beaches located nearby.
There's lots to do at the beach with a free outdoor gym, a skate park and a large kids playground. There are outdoor showers, a large changeroom and toilet and lighting. There is free parking surrounding the beach, including a car park adjacent to the main beach, a car park north of the beach at Jack Vanny Reserve and a car park at South Maroubra Beach.
The beach is patrolled year round by Randwick City Council Lifeguards and is serviced by two surf life saving clubs during daylight saving months. The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage Beachwatch program advises as a general precaution to avoid swimming during and for hours after heavy rain. Stormwater runoff from surrounding streets drain to the beach and nearby coast which may pollute the water.
Dogs, alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted on the beach area. The park also has a shaded kids playground and a skate park. Jack Vanny Reserve is on the northern headland, follow the steps down to delightful Mahon Pool , a popular rock pool in a spectacular setting. The beautifully restored Bay Hotel and Diner is opposite the beach. The Pavilion Beachfront is a breezy, waterside breakfast and lunch spot on the beach promenade that also serves up breathtaking ocean views. Back from the beach, around the Maroubra Road and Anzac Parade junction, head to Golden Unicorn for some of the best yum cha outside of Chinatown and Kokoroya for modern Japanese fare.
Getting to Maroubra, south of Coogee , is easy by public transport. There are buses from Central Station and Museum Station in the city centre that will get you there in about half an hour, taking you through inner city Surry Hills, past the hub of Randwick and onto the beach at Maroubra. Always swim between the red and yellow flags; surf lifesavers have identified this area as the safest spot to swim in the water. Canberra Kilometer.
